In the late 1950s, stereophony found its way into middle-class living rooms through home devices. To prove the merits of stereo records over the mono standard that had prevailed until then, record labels produced demonstration albums, so-called “Stereo Demonstration Records”, which touted the new format through sound effects and spectacular thematic framing. Author, musician and DJ Thomas Meinecke presents a selection of musical gems, obscurities and conceptual missteps of early stereophony from his record cabinet in a commented DJ session.
