“We are not entitled to a normal existence” – for Bu Nasser Touffar, music is a question of survival. His status as one of the most engaged rappers in Lebanon predates the protests in autumn 2019. His songs highlight abuses such as corruption, elitism and violence and articulate the lack of opportunity experienced by many young Lebanese. His existential passion is shared by Samer
Saem Eldahr. With his music project “Hello Psychaleppo” the producer, who was born and raised in Aleppo, invented electro-tarab: a form in which the rules of Arab music merge with electronic dance music such as trap and psytrance. His compelling mixes have not only thrilled stars like Mashrou’ Leila, but before the COVID pandemic they also conquered clubs across the MENA region and in the USA. As part of “This is Not Lebanon”, Bu Nasser Touffar and Hello Psychaleppo will present their first concert in Germany and get the SOMMERBAU buzzing.
