Lights on for the glittering, mysterious world of professional “tribute artists”, the look-alikes of famous pop stars. They pay tribute to the great stars of showbiz by evoking their idols through their gestures, facial expressions, voices and costumes, right down to the smallest detail. Scottish choreographer Claire Cunningham, winner of the German Dance Award 2021, invites you for a drink at the Frankfurt LAB for a glimpse into this special world. Together with an ensemble of renowned artists with disabilities, Cunningham uses the phenomenon of “tribute artists” to question ideas of identity, acceptance and the challenge of being oneself. Through the lens of doppelganger, the ensemble in sparkling costumes takes apart the myth of the ideal body and at the same time questions social perceptions of normality with Cunningham's typical humour.
