The ruins of the Judengasse lie beneath the pavement. The destruction of its main synagogue in the pogrom night of 1938 illustrates the violence inherent in its displacement from today's cityscape. To commemorate the Judengasse, the performance collective LIGNA invites the audience into a virtual reality with faithful reconstructions of the buildings from around 1860. A much more ephemeral architecture shimmers between the buildings: a placeless, scattered voice – coming from everywhere and invisible like the past. It tries to remember; fragmentary, falling silent over and over again. It tells of people and houses, of fires and uprisings. And when it sounds as if it has finally fallen completely silent, it suddenly clears its throat and begins again.
