In an intoxicating mix of intuitive improvisation, electronic production, broken beat bounce and bass-heavy dub, rising star Scottish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall aka corto.alto brings a fresh perspective to contemporary jazz. According to Shortall, his iconoclastic debut album ‘Bad With Names’, due out in October 2024, is about “forgiving yourself”, expressing themes such as a wasted youth, the passing of time and the horrors of the accelerating news cycle with the deftness of a lyricist across twelve instrumental tracks. As a trombonist in the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and a producer of beats in his room, Glasgow-based Shortall has what it takes to take on the best musicians in the country and beyond.
