Afropean Mimicry & Mockery II 28.10.-1.11.2015

in Theatre, Performance & Visual Arts

With plays, performances, video installations, readings and music, the second edition of Afropean Mimicry & Mockery presents international artistic positions specifically dedicated to dissecting whiteness and Africa’s perspective on Europe. Which strategies and power relationships of the gaze need to be unmasked? Who is representing whom and where do possible boundaries lie? The five-day production and research platform deals with dominant and mutual attributions and discourses regarding “Europe” and “Africa”. A one-day research atelier on 31 October presents artistic projects and academic research proposals on issues of representation, affirmation and subversion. This year’s exhibition shows work by e.g. Sam Hopkins (Nairobi) and Yves Sambu (Kinshasa).
