International get-together and conversations in memoriam Hans-Thies Lehmann

Hans-Thies Lehmann (1944-2022) was probably the most influential theater scholar of his generation. His “Postdramatic Theater” has become an epoch-making publication worldwide as a dramaturgy of experimental theater at the end of the 20th century. But where do we stand today, almost 25 years later? Postcolonial and queer theories, a reflection on non-human agency, technology and the organization of institutions, diversity, access and participation, digitalization and artificial intelligence, as well as an eco-critical questioning of theater: a multitude of new problems and questions tie in with Lehmann’s reflections and often comment on them in completely new ways. Following the opening weekend of the international festival Theater der Welt 2023, scholars and artists will discuss dramaturgies for the 21st century.

An event by Theater der Welt, Hessian Theater Academy and Goethe University Frankfurt – Institute for Theater, Film and Media Studies.
