In this piece, Dieudonné Niangouna traces his path from enthusiastic film fan to theatre maker based on his own childhood memories in Congo: together with his father he spent a lot of time in front of their home video recorder and dreamed of a career as a Shaolin monk and as the first Congolese Kung Fu film star. For Kung Fu, Niangouna mixes his own childhood and cinematic memories with individual film sequences that each respectively changed the lives of 20 residents of Frankfurt. For the piece, they reenacted their favourite scenes: from Rocky Balboa to Romy Schneider, from Jackie Brown to Blade Runner, the idols of our collective cinematic memory – inextricably connected with personal moments and sentiments.
