Aerobics! A ballet in 3 acts

Kurtheater Bad Homburg

Bad Homburg/Performance

Aerobics is considered the mother of all workouts. What are however less known are the beginnings of this disco drill. Two decades before Jane Fonda, the US Air Force used it as a training method to strengthen the hearts and lungs of its pilots. As a choreographer with a preference for difficult cases in dance history, Paula Rosolen reflects the fitness movement as an epochal dance piece against the backdrop of society’s drive towards greater efficiency and productivity. Together with her international corps de ballet, she dissects the artistic movement material and reassembles it into masterly, highly rhythmic formations and exuberant solo and duo scenes. Parallels to romantic narrative ballets are just as intended as are academic historical references to the choreographic compositions of dance icons such as Lucinda Childs or George Balanchine.
