Next to Near

Mousonturm Saal

Dance

When does something feel close or intimate? Does intimacy necessarily mean being near to each other? May Zarhy and Hermann Heisig explore the physical and mental sensation of proximity and distance. They thereby reference a lifestyle not only central to dance makers working internationally and constantly on the road, but also shared by many people in this age of Skype, Instagram, and budget flights. In “Next to Near”, Zarhy – best known in Frankfurt for her productions with the choreographers collective MAMAZA – and Heisig, specialist for slapstick and subtle choreographic timing, stake out a field of detailed communication by readjusting their relationship to the audience and a musical trio headed by composer Tian Rotteveel.
