Music is the means by which the American poet and spoken word artist Ursula Rucker from Philadelphia processes her messages, ideas and words. She does this with a fascinating mixture of Philly soul, hip hop, jazz, drum’n’bass and other electronica. Her family history as the daughter of a black father and an Italian mother influences her texts as do her roots in the hip hop scene, her own role as a mother and the context of social politics.
