“Bratsch may well be the best band ever to have mixed jazz, Klezmer, South European and Roma music”, so the press about a band, who describe their acoustic cosmos as imaginary folklore. In their music, they combine various styles of world music such as Balkan, Gypsy, Yiddish music, Klezmer, bal-musette, rebetiko, French Chanson and masterfully reshape them into new variations enriched by free jazz. The result is “a new acoustic form of music merges East European nostalgia, Mediterranean colour, gypsy dexterity and Yiddish irony – music without borders” writes Le Monde. And Gustav Mahler’s “Tradition is passing on the fire and not worshiping the ashes” might also well be motto of their entire musical oevre.
