Opening reception for the Festival 7.30 p.m.

For her production ZOO (Sat., 4.10., Sun. 5.10.), which begins as a reading and ends as a dance piece, Katariina Numminen secretly recorded conversations: between father and son in front of the tiger cage, mothers with friends at the hippo basin, siblings in the monkey house. The animals arouse various emotions in the human beings, from enchantment to agitation, from remorse to blatantly ignorant bragging. In ZOO, the perspectives are strangely altered – producing subtle unease in spite of the humour. Who can honestly say which side of the cage we are on? And in the end, who is laughing at whom?
