30 years of Needcompany
We need company! Everything begins with this simple formula. Thus do Belgian sculptor Jan Lauwers and artist Grace Ellen Barkey articulate their existential need for a committed community and for participation in the artistic work process. Needcompany represents the idea of an open free space, in which all kinds of different concepts of art at the thresholds of theatre, dance, performance, music and visual arts are radically articulated and allowed to evolve regardless of genre traditions or productions mechanisms. Shortly after their establishment in 1986, the Needcompany became one of the most important artistic partners of the Theatre am Turm Frankfurt (TAT) and simultaneously a driving force in a young, internationally operating independent theatre scene. Today, the Needcompany brings together three generations of artists and further collectives. 35 currently associated Needcompany artists will be occupying the Mousonturm and populate it with their newest pieces on all stages, studios and foyers.
All events of the project series „Tolle Künste“ are contributions to the official programme for Guest of Honour Flanders & The Netherlands at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2016. Funded by Dutch Performing Arts and the Flemish Authorities.
