Lea Moro

(Berlin/Zürich)

(b)reaching stillness

Location: Frankfurt LAB (Gallus)

Frankfurt/Performance

Three bodies against a deep blue background, sublime and yet entirely motionless as if all life has gone out of them. Choreographer Lea Moro describes her interest in pausing and stopping movement, in bodies in stasis, as a “stubborn calm”. With resistant humour, she allowed her to be inspired for (b)reaching stillness by Baroque paintings and a passion for the impermanence of all earthly things, to thereupon resurrect and raise up her minimalist tableau vivant: the bodies begin to stir upon the monochrome surface. In tiny, subtle and precisely staged shifts and minimal gestures, they begin to rise, fall and strive upwards again. Even the opulent drama of Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony fails to disturb the trio’s calm.
