A renowned psychiatric hospital in Budapest has been bought by an investor. The patients are turned out into the streets. In this play by Kornél Mundruczó, a group of dementia patients lives in the dilapidated clinic with their doctor and a nurse. They only have one visitor, who turns out to be the building’s new owner. He uses financial blackmail for the patients to be given a clean bill of health. To the sounds of Johann Strauss’ “Wiener Blut”, Mundruczó’s garish, intelligent farce talks about Hungary and our society, where easy money makes us forget our past as well as our morals.

Biography
Kornél Mundruczó / Proton Theater
Geboren im ungarischen Gödöllő, studierte er nach der Schauspielschule an der Ungarischen Universität für Film und Schauspiel und wurde sehr bald zu einem angesehenen Filmregisseur, dessen Arbeiten u.a. bei den Filmfestivals in Locarno und Cannes prämiert wurden. Seit einigen Jahren ist er am Krétakör Theater und am Ungarischen Nationaltheater in Budapest, am Thalia Theater Hamburg und am Schauspiel Hannover als Theaterregisseur tätig. 2009 gründete er seine eigene Produktionsstätte Proton Theatre. Im Rahmen von Neue Stücke aus Europa zeigt das Künstlerhaus Mousonturm im Juni 2014 seine aktuelle Arbeit Dementia.
