In Heretics, Argentinian choreographer Ayelen Parolin invites us to attend a modern ritual featuring two dancers and a pianist. Can our hyper-codified bodies achieve a state of awareness that resembles a shamanist trip? Can the rhythms of a society driven by efficiency be transformed into ones that lead us into a trance-like state? While strictly adhering to the mathematical principles of effectiveness, Parolin’s powerful choreography nevertheless resolutely transcends pure numbers.

Conditions of Being a Mortal is the newest production by Hungarian choreographer and her company, who first debuted in Frankfurt in 2014 with their radically physical piece Dawn. To the impelling music of Franz Liszt, two female and two male dancers step on stage: melodramatic gestures become outlets for a joyful and humorous transgression of all conventions. Pure physicality and exalted emotionality become inextricably intertwined. Conditions of Being a Mortal is a beautifully danced Garden of Earthly Delights!
