The performance explores sculptures by Austrian artist Franz West. The so-called “Adaptives” or “Fitting Pieces” are objects intended not only for contemplation, but also for taking them in hand and using them as prosthetic extensions of the body. In “I-on”, Bulgarian performance artist Ivo Dimchev uses West’s objects for a personal confrontation with contemporary art. In an absurd and intense collage of physical interactions, he playfully confronts his concrete living body with the abstract and stiff materiality of the objects. “Dimchev touches, explores, mounts and batters his Adaptives with humour, but also with an unbelievable intensity, which seemingly brings out his darkest sides.” Elisabeth Nehring

Biography
Ivo Dimchev
Ivo Dimchev ist ein Choreograf und Performer aus Bulgarien und studierte u.a. Performative Künste an der DasArts Academy in Amsterdam. In seinen Arbeiten agiert er an den Grenzen zwischen Performance, Tanz, Theater, Musik, Bildender Kunst und Fotografie. Er entwickelte über 30 verschiedene Performances, die in Europa und Nordamerika zu sehen waren, und erhielt dafür zahlreiche internationale Preise für Tanz und Theater. Neben seiner künstlerischen Arbeit hat Ivo Dimchev an verschiedenen Einrichtungen in ganz Europa gelehrt und ist seit Januar 2013 vier Jahre lang Artist-in-Residence am Kaaitheater in Brüssel.
