Guillermo Calderón

Mateluna

Mousonturm Saal

Theater

For his piece Escuela, on the legacy of Pinochet’s military dictatorship, Chilean author and director Guillermo Calderón interviewed Jorge Mateluna – a former guerillero of the Chilean “Frente Patriótico Manuel Rodríguez” (FPMR) sentenced to jail for 14 years. When the piece came out, Mateluna was again sentenced for alleged participation in a bank robbery. Based on this intrusion of reality into the art world, Calderón explores the relationship between artistic action and political violence and what guilt and justice mean in the post-Pinochet era in his new piece.
