Cena 11

(Florianópolis)

Protocolo Elefante

Mousonturm Saal

Dance

Alejandro Ahmed and his dance collective Cena 11 are considered the punks of the Brazilian dance scene and have continued to live up to their legendary reputation for almost 20 years now thanks to their highly energetic style. As in earlier works, the Florianópolis-born choreographer has once again created a contemporary ritual leading his company and the audience into intensely borderline territory. He drew his inspiration from the behaviour of elephants shortly before death. Known to be extremely social animals, elephants leave their herds and prefer solitude when the moment has come. Ahmed uses this behaviour as an artistic metaphor for a choreography, which speaks with vehemence of the tension between belonging and isolation.
