“Sunny, yesterday my heart was filled with pain. Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain.” Bobby Hebb’s often-covered song from the year 1966 is one of the greatest earworms in pop history. Now, the hit song now serves as the starting point for a turbulent group piece by France-based choreographer Emanuel Gat, who has created a show, which brings dance and music together in a very special way in collaboration with former dancer and shooting star of the French electro scene Awir Leon. Gat gives free rein to allow his dancers to react to Leon’s live sound. Out of the self-regulating choreographic system, polyphonic structures and fragile movement patterns emerge that echo like a single note only to reside again. Sounds and movements merge into breathtakingly beautiful artistic synaesthesia.
