“We have (…) the paradoxical situation that regardless of the mass of existing literature about the tragedy and the tragic there is nonetheless almost no – in the narrower sense – academic theatrically-oriented and argumentative theory of the tragedy.” For this reason theatre scholar Hans-Thies Lehmann felt the urge to write his recent study on the tragedy and dramatic theatre, published this spring 2014 as an object of “tragic experience” “from the perspective of theatrical experience”. Lehmann will be giving a short introduction to his work, followed by a discussion with philosopher Christoph Menke and theatre scholar Nikolaus Müller-Schöll.
