The goal of the workshop is to give you the opportunity to learn more about Ballroom and Voguing and why this culture and these free spaces are very important in Germany. In establishing Ballroom, in Germany, a culture that was created mainly by and for BIOPC Queer Bodies, it is important that the knowledge transfer takes place on many levels and not only physically. There is a need to develop an understanding that this culture and every movement is connected to much more than first appears. Representation and acceptance unfortunately do not exist as a matter of course for everyone in our society, so our community does a lot of self-organized activist or social work. The workshop will provide a basic understanding of the different dance styles and categories in Ballroom culture, such as Vogue Fem, New Way, Old Way, Runway and Face.

Those who do not have any Ballroom experience yet and still want to participate in the Posing and Runway Workshop should attend the Ballroom for Beginners Workshop beforehand.

Georgina Philp aka European Mother Leo Saint Laurent
Georgina Philp aka European Mother Leo Saint Laurent graduated in 2008 from the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg (Netherlands) with a Bachelor of Performing Arts and since then she has been working successfully as a freelance performer and choreographer in the European dance and culture industry. Mother Leo Saint Laurent is known as the trailblazer of Ballroom in Germany in Germany since the first Ball in 2012 during the Berlin Voguing Out Festival. She was deemed legendary for her main Category Womens European Runway 2022, becoming the first Legend in Germany. The European Chapter the House of Saint Laurent started in 2012, formerly known as the House of Melody, the first German Ballroom House. Since 2019 the House has transformed and joined forces with the Iconic House of Saint Laurent (founded 1982 in NYC), representing the European Chapter currently. This connection came to life through the Iconic Godfather Vjuan Allure Saint Laurent, who passed away in March 2021.

anybody walking?
The initiative “anybody walking?!” was founded in 2018 under the original name “Voguing in Hessen” and has since cultivated a local ballroom scene in Hessen and the surrounding area. In addition to regular meetings and trainings, it actively contributes to passing on the arts of ballroom by organising workshops in collaboration with local dance schools and with renowned, national and international artists of the ballroom community, such as Arturo Mugler, Diva Ivy Balenciaga or Georgina Leo Saint Laurent. Over the years, members have participated in countless balls across Europe and overseas. As the local community in Frankfurt has grown, they have been able to organise smaller events (practice balls) as well as last year’s first Kiki Ball in Frankfurt. anybody walking?! cooperates with local organisations and initiatives such as LLL e.V., the feminist DJ collective GG VYBE and the Frankfurt artists’ collective c.c.bb.069. They also act as speakers for ballroom and queer culture in the Frankfurt area.
