Z.E.R.O. Zoneless Engaged Relational Organism (new version 2013)

Mousonturm Saal

Performance/Dance

In their piece Z.E.R.O., the current Mousonturm resident ensemble MAMAZA explores the body as tabula rasa and pure instrument. What happens, when physical memory and our recollection of former actions go missing? What is communicated when ‘intention’ and ‘functionality’ are no longer categories for movement? The dancers stretch their limbs and touch their arms as if they aren’t their own or rather as if the arm of the Other belongs to them. Every single movement is as strikingly singular, as if it were being performed for the very first time in an isolated now without any consequences: when we are what we do. In Z.E.R.O., this mode of existence, presented with remarkable physical intelligence, raises the unsettling issues of identity that arise when confronted with the loss of (physical) memory.
