Moon Machine, Grounded

Mousonturm Saal/Bau

The “Moon Machine” is a mobile musical island, a handcrafted concoction of pneumatic instruments and mechatronic sound machines, a parasol, signal horns and acoustic collision warning devices. Built in 2019 in honour of the legendary musician Moondog by composer Thies Mynther, theatre maker Veit Sprenger and visual artist Tobias Euler, the three artists have since explored its performative possibilities in various contexts. Following exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Münster and the Kunstverein Hamburg and shows at the Flurstücke Festival, the International Summer Festival at Kampnagel and Ars Electronica, it’s next stop is now Mousonturm. In a continuation of Moondog’s works and his instrumental inventions such as the Trimba or Dragon’s Teeth, the trio have added their own melodies, poems and musical experiments to the composer’s canon.

The installation of the Moon Machine can be experienced and explored every evening by the audience from 45 minutes before the start of the performance.
