Gregor Praml trifft Maximilian Shaikh-Yousef

Lokal im Mousonturm, teilbestuhlt

Concert/Discussion

“His sense of interesting topics and diverse tonal qualities” won Maximilian Shaikh-Yousef the 10,000 euro endowed Jazz scholarship of Frankfurt in 2018. The saxophonist is a whiz kid, only just turned 25, and already so far advanced that you can hear an individual style. But he doesn’t only play sax, he also writes for his various bands and projects. These include e.g. the Shaikh Quartet or the Ensemble SH4iKH 9, whose sound, some say, is electrifying, delicate and sometimes even brutal. Originally, he studied jazz saxophone at the University for Music in Mainz. His teachers were Steffen Weber (saxophonist in the hr-Bigband) and Sebastian Sternal (pianist and composer) – important members of the German Jazz scene. Gregor Praml meets this musician of the “Next Generation Jazz”, to glance into the future and present an astonishing talent to the Mousonturm audience.
